about

Our regular in-house joke is that God of the Dead would make a great name for a metal album. In all seriousness, it is a simple yet powerful song about God's nature. Our God is one of new life in the face of death, new meaning in the face of meaninglessness. In the short verses we are reminded of varied biblical imagery such as the flood of Genesis 6, the column of smoke and fire in Exodus 13, and of course the Resurrection of the dead, both past and future.

This song is a classic for both the former Mosaic community, and Servant Church. Our good friend Seth Woods (also known as the Whiskey Priest) used to lead music at Mosaic, and this is perhaps his greatest 'hit' in the church world here in Austin. If it sounds familiar it's probably because The Gentle Wolves have already recorded a version on Set I.
Our new version features the singing of long-time wolf Paul Price (of Good Field). Not only does he grace our record with his oh-so-cool vocal delivery, but he conceived this whole upbeat arrangement, lick and all. Paul sometimes leads music in my stead at Servant Church and this is the fruit of one of those instances. Just like the song asks God to give us a new identity thorough his spirit, I love how Paul has given this song new life.
I, for one, would love to see what Paul would come up with if he did an entire album of liturgical worship music!
