about

I remember singing this song with my wife Molly at my grandmother’s funeral a couple of years ago. It was always one of her favorite songs. For that I’d like to dedicate this to her. We miss you Philly.

We rarely sing this song on Sundays because I think theology behind it to be a little questionable. When discussing what heaven will be like the biblical evidence is scant and the conclusions must therefore be speculative. More specifically, it seems like Jesus thought “am I going to know my loved ones in heaven?” to be the wrong question. He seemed more interested in who and what we were entrusting our lives to today, and what God calls us to do now. Therefore in our worship gatherings we generally tend to focus on these more immediate questions.

This version is pretty much all Molly Kentopp and Mitch Holt. You hear them sing backup on much of the Gentle Wolves catalog, but this is an intimate take on a gorgeous Christian classic that features people who can actually sing!
