about

I wrote the lyrics and melody to this lament in the shower in 2011. I specifically wanted to come up with an extended intro to Mahailia Jackson's epic Troubles of the World. A We Will Rock You to our We Are The Champions, if you will. I think it's important that we make space in our worship for lament, darkness, and doubt. The Psalter certainly does, and when we neglect these primal sentiments in our gatherings we often alienate many who simply aren't in a place for unmitigated joy.

Therefore, borrowing imagery and language from throughout the Psalms, here is my first completely original lament (and liturgical worship song in general).

This version is a simple track but features more rock guitars than you're used to hearing from the Gentle Wolves.
The end cuts off abruptly because it leads directly into the epic Troubles of the World.
