about

This one came easy. I found these lyrics from one of my favorite 19th c. hymn writers, Fanny Crosby. Then I sat down and started reading the lyrics in the old traditional tune and just clunked along the chords beneath. I did tinker with the lyrics a little bit, but other than that this hymn retuned itself!
I love the way this hymn reminds us that God's people are a people of waiting.
"We are waiting blessed savior, we are watching for the hour..."
Perhaps the most unreasonable seeming (yet essential) tenets of of the Christian faith is that Christ will return. This time not as a poor child in a manger, but as a king who conquers with love. It is our job, as his people, to point to that glorious crowning day.

I love Dan Wheeler's drumming on this recording. His parts are very straight forward, but there are two takes layered tastefully over each other. Every stanza of the hymn adds another layer to keep the song moving.
