about

I retuned these lyrics, which are based on the Psalter, during a time when I was thinking a lot about Eschatology and our ultimate hope as Christians.
Zion, in the Psalms, refers to the idealized city of Jerusalem, "God's own city..." Not only does it refer to the ancient city, but today we see it as looking forward to the figurative new city of the Lord in Revelation 21.

This is the first of several songs that I found the lyrics for, wrote some new music, and then taught it to the band.
It is also the first of a hand full of the new recordings to feature our 'Wolf Choir' (how long can we keep this wolf theme going?).
While tracking the choir parts back in August of 2013, I had trouble keeping everyone quiet. Listening back through all the takes, I loved it when my good friend Dave Rupert jokingly said "What kind of party place is that?" at the beginning of the take. Of course, everyone cracks up. I kept this on the record because Jerusalem, both past and future, is a reminder that God is here, with us, in the midst of his creation. That's got to be a party place for sure, and I wanted this track to reflect the party to come.
